Olivia Newton-John At Market Days

Sunday night Olivia Newton-John performed at Chicago's gay Market Days event. She told ChigagoPride.com:
"To me love is love. It shouldn't matter. I have so many close friends and family who are gay I don't even think about it. I just want everyone to have the chance to love who they want to and it just shouldn't matter. Some of the closest people in my life are gay and I have to say, have had longer committed relationships than many of my straight friends - including my beautiful sister Sarah and her partner."
Listen to the boys sing along!

Newly Added To Merriam-Webster

Here are a few of the words and terms added to the 2012 edition of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary by its editor Peter Sokolowski: F-bomb, sexting, man cave, earworm, energy drink, flexitarian, mash-up, e-reader, craft beer, and shovel-ready. A couple of existing words have had new definitions added: toxic (in a political sense) and underwater (regarding home mortgages.) Flexitarian, which describes a vegetarian who occasionally eats meat or fish, was a new one to me.

Romney Campaign Bans Press From Ryan Meeting With Billionaire Sheldon Adelson

Paul Ryan's first meeting with billionaire Romney backer Sheldon Adelson will be held away from prying eyes of nosy reporters.
Days after assuring reporters that Ryan would follow the same rules as Romney when determining which fundraisers would be open to reporters, the campaign has apparently changed their tune. As of Tuesday morning, reporters would not be permitted to cover Ryan's fundraiser with billionaire mega-donor Sheldon Adelson at The Venetian in Las Vegas tonight. The campaign's agreement with the press is that events not at private residences are to be open to reporters. The campaign has also kept reporters from events where Romney does not deliver formal remarks. Ryan aides would not comment on the change on the record. Ryan held a fundraiser in Denver on Monday that was closed press because it was at a private home.
The Romney campaign says it's not really a fundraiser, it's a "financing event," but they would not say what the difference might be.

IOWA: NOM Pledges $100K To Oust Justice That Backed Same-Sex Marriage

Three of the seven Iowa Supreme Court judges that unanimously approved marriage equality in 2009 were unseated the following year with the help of heavily-funded out of state hate groups. Yesterday NOM announced that they will donate $100,000 to this year's attempt to boot a fourth judge. Via Quad City Times:
“This is about freedom, not just about marriage,” [Bob] Vander Plaats said in unveiling Iowans for Freedom’s 2012 campaign to oust Wiggins — who is one of four Supreme Court justices who will be up for retention this fall — during the sold-out Family Leader’s Family Leadership Summit that drew 1,000 activists to the Point of Grace church in Waukee. “We see this as a freedom and constitutional issue important to all Iowans. If courts are allowed to redefine the institution of marriage, every one of the liberties we hold dear is in jeopardy.” To kick off the campaign, Brian Brown of the National Organization for Marriage pledged that his organization would provide a match of up to $100,000 the contributions that are made during the next two weeks.
NOM's money will go directly to Family Leader, which you may recall had candidates sign a pledge that included an affirmation that black people were better off under slavery. Family Leader head Bob Vander Plaats is a three-times failed candidate for Iowa governor who enjoys a hearty "fag" joke and who was accused of demanding a huge payment in return for his group's endorsement of Rick Santorum.

Clicking on those anti-gay ads (which are triggered by JMG content and your own browser history) costs their makers a penny or so every time. I've mentioned this in the past, but in the last few days I've been bombarded with "OMG! Joe!" screencaps. And on a different note, I sort of like knowing what our enemies see every day across their monitors. I have made attempts to block these ads being fed here by the agencies, but every new campaign has a different title, making the effectiveness of such actions short-lived.
